The 80s wasn’t all shoulder pads, big hair and Culture Club! The decade that gave us Glasnost, Tiananmen Square and the Czech’s Velvet Revolution also gave us Microsoft Windows, Apple, HDTV, Digital Cellular Phones, Cabbage Patch Kids and Prozac.
If NASA hadn’t been so busy with the Space Shuttle, they may have continued on the path to inventing a system for growing edible plants in space, on rotating wheel perhaps?
Although the NASA thought of a Rotary Hydroponic System never came to fruition – NASA opted for plantgrow technology like the WARP10 LED lighting and flat-bed systems, rather than a wheel - an Italian design team has re-hashed the rotating wheel, picking up where NASA left off almost 30 years ago.
