Anticipation amongst physicists has to be at an all time high. The famed particle is the missing link in current theories of physics, used to explain how everything gains its mass. Rumors have been crashing about the scientific community for weeks on these findings. Finding the Higgs is the central goal for the $10bn Large Hadron Collider - a 27km, 17mile circumference accelerator ring of superconducting magnets - designed to re-create the conditions just after the Big Bang in an attempt to answer fundamental questions of science and indeed the Universe itself.
