VW are now the biggest automotive manufacturer in the world’s biggest automotive market, quite a contrast to their US operations where they skirt around the middle of the pack.
Volkswagen were once much-loved in the US for their quality, but have since seriously fallen out of favor.
Over in the Middle Kingdom VW’s pull on the Chinese public is immense, the German auto-makers offer stretches from the cheapest $US12,000 hatch to the $US175,000 Phaeton übersedan.
And it seems that anything with a VW badge riveted to the front and back panels seems to simply drive out the showroom doors.
Volkswagen sold 3.27 million vehicles in China last year, it’s closest rival, GM, sold 3.16 million cars, now the race is on for VW to become the world’s biggest automotive manufacturer, but for them to achieve that result they will need to improve the way the US market views them :: Read the full article »»»»

NO This isn’t a reprint, this is ANOTHER recall! Japanese auto giant Toyota says it will recall more than 900,000 vehicles in Canada, Japan, Mexico and the United States because of an airbag problem. Toyota will replace parts used in more than 900,000 hatchbacks, named Voltz in Japan and Corolla and Corolla Matrix overseas, and produced between 2001 and 2004, a company spokesman said.
The control unit of the vehicles’ airbags could be damaged by minor electrical noise, and “the airbag could open wrongly in a worst scenario,” the spokesman said. At least 47 cases of the malfunction had been reported, mainly in the United States.
Toyota separately said it would recall some 385,000 Lexus IS cars globally to change windscreen wiper parts, following problems in snow.
Once lauded for its safety standards, Toyota has been forced into damage control mode in recent years after recalling millions of vehicles due to a series of serious defects :: Read the full article »»»

If you’re already concerned about how little people actually pay attention when they’re driving, you may have even more cause for alarm, more distractions are on the way. Responding to demand from consumers, more and more auto manufacturers are integrating devices to tweet, check your Facebook, buy tickets to events, and check your e-mail. Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, Tesla, and Ford all have products in the works and we should be seeing them as soon as Spring. Ford Motors was actually the first one to start incorporating modern communication systems into their dashboards with their Sync technology. Now users will be able to interact with their Twitter account, watch streaming video, and get their news right from the drivers seat.
Ford was first to put apps in its cars, bringing out Pandora internet radio integration in the Fiesta. OpenBeak, a Twitter app, and Stitcher, which streams audio programming from the Internet have also been announced, as has iHeartRadio on BlackBerry. The marriage of Nissan and Renault has seen the pair produce some pretty nifty crossover designs, this however has to take the cake. Nissan in it’s effort to stay ahead of the current dullness out there in the motoring world is building two Juke-R concept cars. The tiny pocket rockets will be kitted with an all-wheel-drive drive-train and a heart stopping 480 bhp 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, the same motor hiding inside the Nissan GT-R supercar, ouch. The ubercompact Juke crossover has been a sales smash hit thoughout Europe where more than 100,000 units have been sold in the first twelve months. The performance of the tiny super-city car is not yet known, but given the horsepower and dimensions of the vehicle, it will no doubt be one of the fastest accelerating roadcars in existence. The cars are being built by RML for Nissan Technical Centre for Europe (NTC-E) with a view to testing the public’s reaction to a seriously sporty Juke. CONSIDER IT TESTED! Juke-R is all I want for Christmas thanks! B★C READ MORE

Peugeot, hmmm, they’ve always made a decent enough Looking automobile, a little lacking perhaps on the reliability front – Peugoet Drivers Be Quiet, servicing your car EVERY month isn’t normal – aside from that little nugget, if don’t fit into a slimline blue pencil skirt or loafers and cardigans, they’ve never really been inspiring. Adding to that image, Peugeot has released pix of it’s latest concept, the VeLV. In fairness to Peugeot, it looks like their partners, Citreon may have had a heavy hand in designing this commuter. VeLV is a French acronym that translates to City Light Electric Vehicle – the PSA concept debuted at a Paris innovation forum where the company said its baby would be aimed at corporate fleets, rental companies, car-sharing schemes and private buyers who fancy a second car or just a round-town runabout.
