A Taiwanese teenager has collapsed and died at an internet cafe after playing Diablo III for 40 hours straight. Officials say the 18-year-old booked a private room at the cafe in Tainan and did not emerge for nearly two days. When an attendant checked on him, he stood up from the computer, took a couple of steps, and collapsed.
Police have no conclusive clues so far on the teens death, they are speculating that sitting for long hours in a sedentary position created cardiovascular problems for the victim.
The teen had been playing the latest instalment of the role-playing game and went relatively unnoticed in the gaming kiosk. It’s the second death from playing video games in the country this year. In February, a man in New Taipei was found dead, slumped in a chair facing a computer with his arms still reaching out for the keyboard after playing for 23 hours. The cause of death was reported as cardiac arrest.
